District fifth grade band students put on winter concert

Fifth grade band students from elementary schools across the district recently came together to put on a winter concert. The showcase, performed for parents, staff and community members, was the first time the students came together to perform these songs.

The blue band performed first, made up of musicians from Birch Grove, Crest View, Edinbrook, Elm Creek, Fernbrook, Fair Oaks, Garden City, Palmer Lake, Park Brook, Rice Lake, Woodland and Zanewood elementary Schools. The silver band performed second, made up of musicians from 279Online, Basswood, Cedar Island, Oak View, Rush Creek and Weaver Lake elementary schools.

The students were led by all of their band directors, who traded off conducting the different songs. The directors included Brianna Barhorst, Eric Bitterman, Eric Davidson, Phil Hatchner, Jane Ruohoniemi, Wade Schroeder and Paul Terry. 

The concert included the songs Band of Parade, Cardiff by the Sea, Two for the Show, Hot Cross Buns, Au Claure de La Lune, Merrily We Roll Along, Lightly Row and Farm Out. The performance ended with a rendition of We Will Rock You, the students’ favorite to play.
